Precision Livestock Farming und Automation
Background
Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) and solutions as ideas for automating animal husbandry demonstrate the innovative power of animal production. These systems are intended to be used for further optimization of processes, saving resources, and supporting livestock management. However, individual animal sensors, which can be used for animal observation (24/7) and health monitoring, appear to be particularly valuable in this context. Current research and studies at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Faculty LOEL) focus on dairy cows and sows, but also increasingly on more extensive farming systems such as sheep, suckler cows, and beef cattle. Current issues are also being addressed in the field of poultry farming.
Results
In In feeding trials with dairy cows, sows, and fattening pigs, numerous systems have been used to date to describe the effects on animal indicators and animal health. Systems such as SenseHub (MSD Germany), SMATEX (smaXtec animal care GmbH), and various GPS systems are currently being tested for suckler cow husbandry. In combination with numerous animal indicators, SenseHub, for example, was able to demonstrate very clearly the effects of heat stress on the behavior of suckler cows. Changes in feeding and herd management can also be monitored and supervised.
